Local Information - Salisbury and Wiltshire

Superbly situated in southern England's rural heartland, few destinations can match the amazing diversity of Salisbury - with a history dating back over 5,000 years there is no shortage of places to visit and things to do. Being only 1 hour 30 mins from London, 30 mins from Bournemouth and 40mins from Winchester – Salisbury is within easy reach of many destinations and has a thriving commercial industry as a result. It has good links both with rail and road with regular trains running to London, Cardiff, Bristol and the north.

The town centre has a diverse range of shops and supermarkets – you will find small local boutiques as well as larger national franchises. There is a market that runs twice weekly plus a farmers market every two weeks which offers good local produce including organic meats and vegetables. You will find restaurants in abundance ranging from Italian, Chinese and Indian to Cantonese, Thai and traditional English foods.

There are many good primary and secondary schools both state and private including two Grammar Schools which are located close to the city centre.

More information on schools can be found at http://schoolsfinder.direct.gov.uk
